Technical dialogue on greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting systems under the GIC-LAC project

This week in Colombia, our partners the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT held a technical dialogue on greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting systems under the GIC-LAC project — an initiative to strengthen national mitigation goals and pave the way for reducing emissions in the agri-food systems of Latin America and the Caribbean.

See video here.

With support from the Government of New Zealand and the CGIAR Science Program on Climate Change, GIC-LAC is being implemented in Colombia, Peru, and selected Central American countries. The project brings together national institutions and international partners to strengthen transparency and open new opportunities for climate action in the land and food sectors.

🔍 GIC-LAC focuses on:
• Regional assessments of GHG reporting systems to identify information gaps and guide strategic improvements.
• Methodological enhancements that reflect local production systems, institutions, and data realities.
• Roadmaps to reduce emissions and access climate finance, by co-developing investment-ready strategies.
• Regional cooperation and knowledge exchange to adapt solutions to local contexts and realities.

This effort is a step forward in aligning science, policy, and practice to support countries in meeting their climate commitments while transforming food systems for a more sustainable and resilient future.
