ADOPT Caribbean Project
Timeframe
August 2025 to June 2026
Countries
Guyana, Jamaica, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Project Aims
ADOPT Caribbean aims to strengthen CSA practices that improve soil health and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Healthy soils mean stronger crops, lower emissions, and a more sustainable future for farmers and communities alike. The ADOPT Caribbean initiative represents a collaborative effort to tackle climate challenges while safeguarding agricultural productivity and food security. By combining scientific research, farmer engagement, and policy support, this project will help Caribbean nations transition toward more sustainable and resilient farming systems. The project’s two core outcomes:
Empowering Farmers – Promoting awareness and adoption of CSA practices proven to enhance soil health and lower GHG emissions.
Building Institutional Capacity – Supporting government agencies to identify sources of soil-based GHG emissions and establish baseline emissions profiles for major agricultural production systems in each participating country.
Progress
In December 2025, New Zealand technical experts visited Guyana, engaged with government and industry leaders, including the Guyana Rice Development Board, and conducted on-the-ground assessments of local farming systems.
